Therefore, he elected to pursue an Advanced Degree in General Dentistry from the University of Rochester’s Eastman Dental Center in Rochester, New York.
He and his wife,Leslie, then returned to South Carolina to begin his dental practice in Batesburg-Leesville. After 14 years of practice in that area, he then built a state of the art dental facility in Lexington where he currently practices.

He is also involved in the dental professional community. In 2017, Dr. Bumgardner was appointed to the South Carolina Board of Dentistry representing the 2nd Congressional District. Dr. Bumgardner has enjoyed the challenges of making life’s situations work well!
Dr. Bumgardner has been a strong supporter of Christian outreach to teenagers through his work with YOUNG LIFE. He is an avid sailor and has served on the Board of Stewards of the Columbia Sailing Club. He also enjoys hunting, scuba diving and motor boating. He and Leslie have two grown children.
As most people of our state, Dr. Bumgardner is frustrated and angered by many of the actions of the South Carolina Legislature. The lack of foresight of current political leaders has made life harder for many in our state and is reducing the quality of life for almost all. We in South Carolina have roads that have been so neglected they can no longer be repaired and will have to be rebuilt. We have lost our state's largest private employer, SCANA, and now have debt that will be a burden for years to come. We need a new way to accomplish great things for our state. Dr. Bumgardner is ready, willing and able to be the Senator for South Carolina District 18. If we want a different outcome than what we have seen in the past, we need new leaders who are not tied to the old ways of doing things.
One way to bring about a different way of doing our state's business is through more openness into the workings of the legislature. Dr. Bumgardner wants to be able to communicate with all the people he represents. If you wish to be more involved, join with Dr. Bumgardner. Let him know the best way to communicate with you and in turn you with him. Together, we can have a state that works for all.
